The Ukraine-born 24-year-old was in tears following her hard-fought victory over Angelique Kerber, and is set for another stern test against China's world number 133 when they meet on Court Two.

"I need to play well because I have watched the match from Monday quite a few times and I was very up and down," Baltacha said. "I need to peak in this match to have a chance."

Should Baltacha progress, she could come up against Serbian top seed and world number one Ana Ivanovic. The Briton, though, is staying focused on the job in hand.

"That would be lovely," she said. "But I am just taking one match at a time."

Tuesday's action finished with high drama late into the evening at the All England Club when qualifier Chris Eaton - ranked 661 in the world and on his grand slam debut - pulled off a shock straight-sets win over Serbian Boris Pashanski. The 20-year-old, from Surrey, will now face temperamental 25th seed Dmitry Tursunov of Russia.

Eaton said: "It is fantastic, a dream come true. To win my match was phenomenal. The support was unbelievable.

"When you first walk out there, people are shouting and giving it everything, so you cannot not give it everything."

Earlier in the day, women's number one Anne Keothavong had come through an epic two-hour clash against Vania King to set up an encounter with defending champion Venus Williams.

Keothavong said: "It is what you play tennis for, to play these big matches. I am going to go out there with nothing to lose."
