Banahan hat-trick inspires Bath

Towering wing Matt Banahan scored a hat-trick of tries to propel Bath into top spot in the Guinness Premiership - if only for 24 hours - with a 41-10 win over Leeds Carnegie.

Banahan's third try clinched the bonus points as Bath subdued Leeds and notched their seventh win in eight games.

Scrum-half Michael Claassens also claimed tries and Olly Barkley landed seven kicks out of seven to make it a perfect afternoon at The Recreation Ground.

Leeds, second from bottom and already with the worst defensive record in the league, suffered late withdrawals in their pack but stuck to their task until their meagre source of possession finally ran dry.
