Barrett hopeful of release - Dad

The 30-year-old former Test stand-off, who is less than halfway through a three-year contract at the JJB Stadium, will meet Warriors chairman Ian Lenagan on Monday to ask for an early release because his pregnant wife Kylie is homesick.
"He thinks Wigan will give him a release," Bruce Barrett told the Sydney Sunday Telegraph. "I don't think they will stand in his way. I'm pretty sure they will let him go. As a parent, I'm over the moon he's coming home."
At least four National Rugby League clubs have openly expressed an interest in securing his services, including Barrett's former team St George Illawarra, who will be coached by former Australia boss Wayne Bennett next season.
Barrett senior, who spoke to his son on Friday, says he is willing to accept a pay cut to play under Bennett at the Dragons and believes the Warriors will take a sympathetic view to his personal issues.
He added: "Wigan could not have looked after him better. He's not unhappy with the football over there but Kylie is homesick. They have two young kids and another one on the way - that's brought everything forward."
It is possible Barrett could see out the rest of the Super League season before returning home.
His Wigan deal is worth up to £300,000 a season and he may have to sacrifice between £100,000 and £150,000 annually to return to the NRL.
Cronulla, Canberra and Canterbury Bulldogs are also understood to be keen to lure the former Dragons skipper but Bruce Barrett predicted his son would return to his old club.
"I think he will play for the Dragons, yeah," he said. "The salary cap is biting here so I don't know how things would work financially. Trent is quite prepared to come home and play for less money. He just wants to come home."
