Barry backs Young for England role

The winger scored twice in a 3-2 win at Everton last weekend and Barry believes it is time for his team-mate to make his mark in an England shirt.
"Ashley is playing so well and it's not just last Sunday at Everton, he's doing it week-in, week-out. He's so consistent, scoring goals and creating goals all the time," said Barry, who was on hand to deliver presents on behalf of England team sponsors Nationwide Building Society at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
"I'd say he's ready for England. It's not for me to say it's his time to be given a chance right now, that's up to the manager. But I would certainly back him by saying he'll be ready when it comes.
"He's performing consistently in the Premier League which is always a tough thing to do. When his chance comes to get a starting role for England and play a couple of games on the bounce I'm sure he'll be ready to perform at a very high level."
Young is not the only England contender at Villa Park. Gabriel Agbonlahor was outstanding up front against Germany last month and can also play out wide if required.
With so many English stars plying at Villa it is not surprising Capello has been a regular visitor to the Midlands this season and the England factor is also helping manager Martin O'Neill.
His side are now serious contenders for a Champions League spot, currently sitting fifth just one point behind Arsenal.
"It's been a great season so far," said Barry. "And it's great for the club that we have so many top English players.
"In the last England game we had four players involved and in fact there were five named in the initial squad. That's great for Villa. It helps us on the pitch too because we're all on the same level and it helps in the changing room because there is such a good team spirit."
