Barton faces police probe
05 January 2007
The 30-year-old France international required hospital treatment for injuries to his eye, nose and lip following the incident earlier this week.
It is understood that Dabo has asked police to press charges against the player and a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the incident had been reported to them, saying: "Greater Manchester Police has received a report from a 30-year-old man that he was assaulted. Inquiries are ongoing."
Barton was reportedly left devastated after his cousin, Kingsman Alan Jones, was killed in Iraq on St George's Day.
Sources close to the star told The Sun that the death of his relative may explain Barton's behaviour on the training ground.
The footballer has been suspended for the remainder of the season.
Barton's training ground bust-up is the latest in a catalogue of controversial incidents involving the Manchester City midfielder.
In December 2004 he was fined six weeks' wages after he stubbed a lit cigar into the eye of young team-mate Jamie Tandy during the club's Christmas party.
During a tournament in Bangkok in July 2005 Barton was involved in an altercation with a 15-year-old Everton fan at City's team hotel for which he was later fined eight weeks' wages.
And in March this year Barton was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage in an incident involving a taxi driver.
