Beckham doubtful for Superliga opener

Beckham took no part in training on Monday morning at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Instead, he received further treatment on the ankle ligament injury that prevented him from starting against Chelsea at the weekend.
"His chances are slim for," Yallop said. "He's still sore, probably the same condition he was before the game against Chelsea, but the good thing was that he didn't re-injure it."
He added: "He wanted to play in that game but we have to make sure it's right for our games."
Beckham also withdrew from a scheduled appearance at an afternoon press conference called by Major League Soccer to launch the inaugural SuperLiga tournament, which begins with Galaxy against Pachuca.
With another SuperLiga game on Saturday against Chivas Guadalajara, Yallop said the England midfielder would most likely be targeted towards that match, at the 92,000-capacity Los Angeles Coliseum, than rushed into Tuesday night's game against Pachuca.
"I don't think he'll be ready for Pachuca but we'll see how he does for Chivas," the Galaxy head coach said.
"I hate to keep saying this but it is day to day and we don't want to rush him and end up putting him backwards. We're going to clear this thing up and make sure he's ready to play."
Yallop said he was encouraged by the intensity his Galaxy players brought into the Saturday night friendly against Chelsea, holding Jose Mourinho's star-packed line-up to just John Terry's goal just after half-time.
The MLS outfit also created plenty of chances themselves during the 90 minutes to answer the severe criticism they received in the wake of their 3-0 defeat to Mexican side Tigres UANL the previous Tuesday.
