Beckham ready to go

David Beckham is poised to make his biggest contribution yet to his new team by playing as much as 45 minutes in the Los Angeles Galaxy's SuperLiga semi-final on at home to DC United on Wednesday.

Beckham made his Major League Soccer debut in the 1-0 defeat to DC United in Washington DC last week when he came on as a 72nd-minute substitute, but an adverse reaction to his injured left ankle saw him sit out Sunday's league game at New England Revolution.

The England midfielder, who's ankle showed no ill effects from the flight back to Los Angeles, said: "I think I can play at least half a game on Wednesday, which is important for me."

He added: "It's important for the team that I at least get on the pitch and help contribute.

"It was good to at least get out onto the field (on Tuesday) and have a bit of practice. This is my first time obviously since I arrived to be out on the training pitch. It felt good."

The Galaxy face DC United at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, chasing the million dollar prize on offer for the winners of the inaugural SuperLiga, a tournament that started out last month between four MLS and four Mexican Primera Division sides.

Troy Roberts has joined fellow defender and long-term hamstring sufferer Chris Albright as a definite non-starter with an injured right ankle, while Cobi Jones and Kyle Veris are both questionable with hip injuries.

Yallop will also be without suspended striker Alan Gordon, midfielder Kelly Gray and full-back Ante Jazic, while DC United left back Mark Burch misses out for the same reason.

"David is available to start and play a significant role against DC United, and I fully expect to give him his SuperLiga debut at some point in the contest," Yallop said.

"This game is very important to the club and we have a number of players injured or suspended, so to have David available will be a big boost."
