Beckham taking nothing for granted

Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas has written to fans to warn they may be without David Beckham for five Major League Soccer games due to international duty.
But a spokesman for Beckham told PA Sport: "Nobody can make any assumption yet that he will miss five games, it's too early. David has said if he is called up by the England manager he will go back to England and play, simple as that."
Lalas posted a letter on the Galaxy website explaining that the club's prized asset could be called up by England coach Steve McClaren for next month's Wembley friendly against Germany and the five remaining Euro 2008 qualifiers in the autumn.
That could mean Beckham missing important MLS games, and with the Galaxy and other teams in the league marketing ticket packages as a chance to see the England midfielder, Lalas has decided to address the issue.
The spokesman continued: "He is so passionate about playing for his country and the Galaxy have said before they will do everything possible to make sure that happens.
"No-one wants to jump the gun. We will wait until that first squad is called for the Germany game (on August 22) and if David is picked he will head back to London."
In the letter, Lalas wrote: "In recent months David Beckham has been called to represent England in their quest for a place in the 2008 European Championships.
"We anticipate that these call-ups will continue after his arrival to the Galaxy, and as a result, he may miss certain games during the latter half of the 2007 season.
"We know LA Galaxy fans are eager to see David Beckham play and we're working to ensure that he is available for as many games as possible."
