Bent tastes tweet success

Darren Bent admitted that his infamous X-rated Twitter rant had paid off after he was unveiled as a Sunderland player on Thursday.

The striker blasted Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy on his Twitter page for apparently holding up his transfer but on Wednesday night sealed a move for a club record fee that could add up to £15million with add-ons.

The 25-year-old said: "In the long run it seems like it has done but at the same time I was disappointed at the way it came out."

He added: "Normally we tend to keep our mouths shut and everybody does the talking around us. I just wanted to come to Sunderland. I am delighted to be here and I can't wait to move forward."

Bent said he could already sense a more relaxed atmosphere at Sunderland compared to Tottenham, and is targeting an England recall to add to his four caps.

"There is a lot of politics at Tottenham, but that's Tottenham as a club," added Bent.

"I'm a Sunderland player now and it seems a lot more relaxed here.

"The fans are passionate and they have a fantastic stadium. It is the perfect place for me to play well, score goals and hopefully get back into the England set-up.

"The anticipation for this season is massive and I can't wait to get going."

Bent was Tottenham's record signing for £16.5million when he moved from Charlton two years ago, but he struggled to cement a regular place in the side despite finishing as Spurs' top scorer last season.
