Bentley: Capello was right to drop me

David Bentley admits Fabio Capello "probably made the right decision" in dropping him from the England squad for the recent World Cup qualifiers.

The Tottenham winger has endured a difficult few months after Spurs' terrible start to the season following his high-profile transfer from Blackburn. Bentley revealed Capello has not contacted him since he was dropped.

He told BBC1's Inside Sport: "No, he hasn't (contacted him). But you know, I've been out of a couple of games, I've not played as well as I should have, the team (Tottenham) is not doing well. He's got to think of England and he's probably made the right decision."

Bentley insists he bears no animosity towards Theo Walcott and was not watching the recent internationals hoping the young Arsenal winger performed badly.

"No, I'd never wish that upon anyone," he said. "It's never their fault that you're not playing. It's between you and the manager; it's not the player's fault.

"I was happy for him (when he scored a hat-trick in Croatia), it was good. It was good for the team."

As for club matters, Bentley - who pressed hard for the transfer from Blackburn - said: "I made the move to Tottenham and it was such a high - such a buzz - and then you come slap back down to Earth with a bang.

"We didn't want to start like this but maybe we had to start like this - for the long term, for things to work out - and I believe in that," he added.

And the 24-year-old has no regrets about making the move to Spurs.

"No, I'm totally committed," he said. "I wanted to come to Tottenham, I want to play and I want to put things right. I'm up for the challenge and it is a good club to be with."
