Lennon has injured his left ankle and is expected to miss the derby, handing Bentley the chance to play against his former club in the Barclays Premier League fixture he scored a 45-yard volley in a year ago.

"Aaron's not fit for Saturday so David has every chance," confirmed Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

Bentley set up the opener against Everton at White Hart Lane, with Robbie Keane sealing a place in the quarter-finals by following up his own penalty, which he won after getting fouled by Sylvain Distin.

Redknapp has questioned Bentley's effort in training following Lennon's emergence as first choice at Spurs - but he was pleased with the 25-year-old's response.

"His attitude has not been as good in training as it could have been," Redknapp added. "I spoke to him about that. I felt he hadn't worked as hard as he did when I first arrived.

"Maybe he didn't see any light at the end of the tunnel, with Aaron playing and not getting a game. He's gone from playing for England to not getting a game here. Against Everton he was fantastic and turned in a real performance."

Bentley was linked with a move to Manchester City on deadline day, with Redknapp adding: "I've said to David he has to play like that if he wants to stay here or wants to move. Whatever. You have to take the opportunity when given.

"Anyone watching that game will think 'he'll do for me' and when he plays like that I want to keep him."
