Beye believes Magpies will bounce back

Newcastle defender Habib Beye is confident the club can emerge from the doldrums to grow stronger through adversity.

The Senegal international will play his final game for the club in the FA Cup at Stoke on Sunday before heading off on African Nations Cup duty with his country.

Beye admits the last few weeks has been tough, but having been through a similar experience with former employers Marseille, and said: "It has been frustrating, but I have coped with times like this in Marseille. Two years ago, we had a similar run with Marseille, but we came through it and finished second in the table the next season."

He added: "It can change - you just have to work together. Everybody has to work hard and aim for good results."

The Magpies will run out at the Britannia Stadium knowing the eyes of the nation will be upon them amid a frenzy of speculation over boss Sam Allardyce's future.

However, Beye is concentrating solely on his first taste of the FA Cup and the dream of an extended run in the competition.

He said: "I will leave on Monday for the African Nations Cup, but I am looking forward to playing first in the FA Cup, and that's what I am focused on.

"The FA Cup is important for the fans of course, but I am hoping to do well in this. When I was at Marseille, I reached two finals but lost.

"It is good for the club to do well in the FA Cup, and the city. We would love to be in the final at Wembley. Of course, we have to beat Stoke first and that will get the confidence levels high again for Manchester United a week later."
