Black Caps wait on Vettori

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori will find out early next week whether he is fit enough to lead his side against England in Tuesday's Twenty20 international in Auckland.

The Black Caps squad held a limited training session on Saturday, but did so without skipper Vettori, who was undergoing tests on his right ankle.

New Zealand team manager Lindsay Crocker said: "Daniel will have his injury assessed. An X-ray showed that there's no fracture. Obviously, we hope to have him available but we have Jeetan as cover. As we've stated, a decision will be made on his availability early next week."

Spinner Jeetan Patel joined up with the Kiwis squad after Vettori suffered the damage in a freak accident with his province, Northern Knights.

Several of the squad were absent because of Sunday's Twenty20 final between Central and Northern, while Peter Fulton was part of the Canterbury side that faced the tourists in Christchurch on Saturday.

New Zealand face England in two Twenty20 internationals on Tuesday and Thursday, before the one-day series begins on Saturday in Wellington.
