Black Cats sign Davenport

Sunderland have signed West Ham defender Calum Davenport on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old passed a medical on Wearside on Monday before becoming manager Ricky Sbragia's second short-term signing in 24 hours following Tal Ben Haim's move from Manchester City.

Former England Under-21 international Davenport, who cost the Hammers £3million when he joined them from Tottenham during the summer of 2007, will be reunited with Anton Ferdinand at the Stadium of Light.

Meanwhile striker Michael Chopra has left the Black cats to join Championship Cardiff on loan until the end of the season.

The striker, who moved to the Stadium of Light from Cardiff back in 2007, enjoyed a prolific loan spell back in the Welsh capital earlier this season where he scored five goals in 11 appearances.
