Blackburn make move for Diouf

El-Hadji Diouf could become the second player to make a swift exit from Sunderland this month amid concerted interest from Blackburn.

PA Sport understands the Black Cats have received a bid from Blackburn for the 28-year-old Senegal international as Rovers boss Sam Allardyce attempts to recruit a man he first signed during his time at Bolton.

Should Allardyce get his man, Diouf would leave Wearside just six months after completing a £2.5million switch from the Reebok Stadium.

Sunderland allowed French full-back Pascal Chimbonda to leave the club this week, as he headed back to Tottenham after just 16 appearances for the club.

Diouf has also played 16 times for Sunderland, three times as a substitute, and has yet to score.

Like Chimbonda, he made a promising start under then-manager Roy Keane but fell out of favour amid suggestions of disciplinary problems.

He has started three of the last five games, but has been an unused substitute for the last two.

Current Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia revealed on Wednesday that he is hoping to make progress on his own recruitment plans - he is keen to land at least one experienced defender - before Sunday's short derby trip to Newcastle.

But he also hinted that there could be further movement out of the club with time running down towards Monday evening's transfer deadline.
