Blues close in on Atletico star

Birmingham are closing in on the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Peter Luccin.

Blues boss Steve Bruce is keen to land the signature of the 28-year-old Luccin before the transfer window closes on Friday.

"We are close to one or two things - I hope by Monday we will have something done," said Bruce.

"The player we are after has got a really good pedigree.

"We have agreed his wages, a fee and the length of contract. I'd love to have a young British midfielder but you can't get them for whatever reason."

Bruce, who is also being linked with Marseille midfielder Modeste M'bami, filled the midfield hole in Saturday's win over Derby with on-loan Arsenal player Johan Djourou.
