Blues duo pipped for prize by Kanoute

Former Tottenham and West Ham striker Frederic Kanoute has been named the 2007 African Footballer of the Year - ahead of Chelsea duo Didier Drogba, who won the award last year, and Michael Essien.

The Sevilla star becomes the first European-born player to claim the prize after he was born in France but plays his international football for Mali.

Kanoute's team were knocked out of the African Nations Cup by Ivory Coast earlier this week after Drogba scored the opening goal in a 3-0 win.
