Blues fined for player misconduct

Chelsea have been fined £40,000 by the Football Association over the behaviour of their players in the Barclays Premier League match at Derby on November 24.

The penalty was issued at a Regulatory Commission hearing on Thursday morning when the Blues admitted a charge of failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.

Chelsea were brought to book by the FA as a result of their players' behaviour towards referee Andre Marriner at Pride Park.

Avram Grant's side were leading the Rams 2-0 when midfielder Michael Essien was dismissed by Marriner for apparently aiming an elbow at County striker Kenny Miller in injury-time.

The red card received by the Ghanaian provoked an angry response from some of the Blues players and led to Thursday's ruling.
