Blues secure friendly win

Birmingham opened their pre-season with a 2-0 win over German side Hohenlohe Auswahl in Kunzelsau.

Mikael Forssell and Neil Danns scored the goals as Steve Bruce's side struggled in 30 degree-plus heat.

With most of the club's summer signings ineligible because of international clearance not coming through in time, the only new face on show was Stuart Parnaby who had a comfortable game at right-back.

Forssell opened the scoring after 28 minutes when he swooped on the loose ball in the area and slotted into the bottom corner.

Danns scored from the penalty spot after 86 minutes following a foul on Gary McSheffrey.
