Bolton close to Wilhelmsson capture

Bolton have announced they expect to sign Swedish winger Christian Wilhelmsson from Nantes "in the next 24 hours" on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal.

The 27-year-old, a Sweden international, spent the second half of last season on loan at Serie A side Roma, and Bolton boss Sammy Lee said: "I am delighted.

"We have been working on this deal for some time and our patience has paid off. He is a versatile winger and will add a new dimension to our new style of play we are going to implement this season."

He added: "One of his greatest attributes is that he is capable of playing on both the left and right flank with relative ease. He likes to attack and will give us the perfect outlet to provide good service to our attackers."

Wilhelmsson joined Nantes from Anderlecht last summer but made only 13 appearances before heading to the Eternal City on loan, making 19 appearances and scoring one goal.

The winger, who has 40 Sweden caps, is awaiting international clearance and could play against Tranmere at Prenton Park on Saturday.
