Armitage was a shock exclusion from the 37-man party for South Africa but Booth has been impressed with the way he has handled the rejection and hopes the jet-heeled back will take centre stage in the Guinness Premiership semi-final against Quins.

"Delon's had a great run and has continued to play very well for us - in the second half against Worcester in our last game he was absolutely fantastic," said Booth.

"Delon can only control what he does on the pitch and the way he's responded to what happened shows maturity. Four years ago he would have struggled with that

"It stung a little bit when he first heard but it's a reminder of the lesson to wait until you get the piece of paper in your hands.

"It doesn't matter what people are saying, it's the people who make the decisions that count.

"I said to him that if I had told you in September that you'd be disappointed because you didn't get a Lions call-up you'd have laughed at me.

"Two days later he was fine. The fact he can leave that behind him is the sign of a player with a good mindset."
