Borg tips Murray for Wimbledon joy

Bjorn Borg is convinced it is only a matter of time before Andy Murray wins Wimbledon.

The 22-year-old Scot lifted the AEGON Championships title last week, to become the first British winner at Queen's in 71 years. Now all eyes will focus on the Wimbledon fortnight, where Murray aims to be the first home-grown champion since Fred Perry in 1936.

"He is ready to win a Grand Slam tournament and is one of my favourites to win Wimbledon," said Borg, who claimed the men's single crown at SW19 for five years running from 1976 as well as six French Open titles before retiring at the age of just 26. "He has no weaknesses, he can play on all kinds of surfaces and I was very impressed what he did on the clay court surface. He was hitting the ball extremely well."

While Murray maintains he will not get swept up in all the inevitable pre-tournament hype, the world number three is set to be among the favourites at the All England Club where he will look to fend off the challenges of newly-crowned French Open champion Roger Federer and holder Rafael Nadal, currently struggling with a knee problem.

"Andy Murray seems to find himself on the court and knows how to behave, focus and play his game," he added.

"He has matured a lot as a person over the last year and as a tennis player.

"If you compare him now to a few years ago he is a completely different player on the court."

Borg, 53, added: "If he does not win Wimbledon this year, then he has a good chance in the years to come.

"One day, eventually, Andy Murray will win Wimbledon."
