Botham: Role could be good for KP

The 28-year-old is expected to be named Michael Vaughan's successor as Test captain later today, also taking over the reins of the one-day side following Paul Collingwood's resignation.
Some have questioned the wisdom of promoting the South Africa-born batsman, but Botham told the Daily Mirror: "KP would relish the chance to be England captain and as good a player as he already is now, the extra responsibility might just send him on to a higher plane."
He added: "He is an exciting cricketer who has a decent cricket brain to go with his talents with the bat, and although he will be different to Michael there is every chance that he could be a success."
Another former captain, Nasser Hussain, also gave his qualified backing to Pietersen and believes it may turn him into more of a team player.
"There are times when Pietersen plays like an individual, as when he got out on 94 at Edgbaston," Hussain told the Daily Mail.
"Then compare that with the way Graeme Smith played a captain's innings to win the game for South Africa.
"If Pietersen is in charge it may give him that extra degree of responsibility."
