Boxing stars back youth scheme

England's boxing stars are to spearhead a scheme aimed at cutting youth crime.

Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan have given their backing to an initiative called 'Gloves not Guns, Gangs or Knives' aimed at keeping young people out of gangs.

Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) president Richard Caborn said "The Gloves not Guns, Gangs or Knives scheme is a great project using sport to combat crime and to get youths off the streets into a controlled and disciplined environment that promotes positive activity through ABAE Clubs, schools and community centres."

He added: "Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan will be providing master classes along with local role models."

The scheme has been launched by the ABAE in London on Wednesday.

The ABAE have also launched a new educational national academic qualification in boxing.
