Brawn duo make history

Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello and Brawn GP created a slice of Formula One history with a memorable one-two in Sunday's Australian Grand Prix.

For the first time since 1954 when the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio led home Karl Kling for Mercedes in the French Grand Prix, a debut team captured the top two places in a race. Button led from start to finish for only the second win of his 154-race career.

And in the aftermath to the season-opening race it also transpired that current champion Lewis Hamilton had been promoted to third place, after stewards ruled Jarno Trulli had passed under a yellow flag and imposed a 25-second time penalty on the Toyota driver.

It was eventful day for veteran Barrichello as he was initially involved in a first-corner melee. After surviving that, he only took the runner-up spot thanks to Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica colliding three laps from home when running second and third.

With just three laps remaining, with Vettel and Kubica dicing for second place, the Pole attempted to pass the German around the outside of a right-hand turn.

They inevitably collided, resulting in the Red Bull losing its front wing, and with the BMW Sauber's severely damaged. Vettel soon collided into a wall, almost losing his left front wheel, whilst Kubica crashed out as he tried to continue.

Toyota's Trulli, who had started in the pit lane along with team-mate Timo Glock after their cars were deemed to be using illegal flexi wings, finished third only to be stripped of his standing after passing Hamilton under yellow flags following the crash.

And Hamilton's world champion's drive from 18th in a woefully under-performing McLaren was rewarded by the ruling.

But the day belonged to Brawn GP and particularly Button who fully deserved this stunning victory.
