Breakthrough for Bresnan

Yorkshire's Tim Bresnan made the breakthrough for England after Australia were asked to bat in the second NatWest Series contest at Lord's.

Following an hour without success, Bresnan had Shane Watson caught at short extra-cover by Luke Wright to leave Australia 62 for one after 15 overs.

Bresnan was recalled due to fellow all-rounder Stuart Broad being ruled out through a neck strain.

Ashes hero Broad, 23, incurred the damage diving in the field in the opening loss to the Australians at the Oval on Friday.

The problem has restricted mobility in Broad's right shoulder, although the England medical team are confident he will be available for Wednesday's day-night contest in Southampton.

Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid was dropped despite figures of 10-0-37-0 and a valiant, unbeaten 31 on Friday, with Eoin Morgan called in to bat at number six.

England captain Andrew Strauss won the toss and opted to bowl first in overcast conditions in NW8, with the early 10.15am start likely to assist the pace attack.

New-ball bowler James Anderson believed he had made the first inroad in the third over when he struck Watson on the pad with one which held its line.

But umpire Ian Gould turned down the confident appeal and Watson, on one at the time, went on to hit 34.

Although it was not until the 15th over that England claimed their initial success, they claimed a second one in eight balls when Paine skied to deep mid-wicket off Luke Wright.
