Britain ease to victory

Great Britain stepped up a gear in the second half to cruise to a 42-14 victory over France in the Frontline Test at Headingley Carnegie.

The French had surprisingly pegged the Lions back in the opening period, with two Maxime Greseque tries giving the visitors a 10-4 lead.

The tide turned as Britain edged in front before the break - and they eased home as seven different players finished with tries, Rob Burrow leading the way with two.

Adrian Morley, the oldest man in Smith's team by some distance, led by example and was rewarded with his first try for his country, almost 11 years since making the first of his 27 appearances.

Livewire scrum-half Rob Burrow, who made up for the disappointment of his non-appearance on last year's Tri-Nations tour, grabbed a brace of tries in one of a host of eye-catching displays in front of a 12,685 crowd.

The St Helens quartet of Jon Wilkin, James Graham, James Roby and Ade Gardner all enhanced their burgeoning reputations while Kevin Sinfield showed his class after being brought back from the international wilderness.

Sinfield was forced into the stand-off role after the early loss of his Leeds team-mate Danny McGuire through injury and revelled in his familiar surroundings with a master class of ball distribution to win the man-of-the-match award.
