Broad treble lifts England

Nottinghamshire's Broad took his figures to three for 19 on the third day by dismissing Shivnarine Chanderpaul late on in a ball-dominated afternoon session. It came in the second over with the second new ball, following Andrew Strauss' tactical decision to delay taking it until the 105th over.
West Indies, who literally ground to a halt against the soft, old ball, were 271 for five at tea.
Left-hander Chanderpaul was undone by one which nipped back to trap him in front of off-stump - the batsman's challenge to umpire Tony Hill's decision futile.
Andrew Flintoff removed centurion Ramnaresh Sarwan via an inside edge into the stumps for the other wicket of the session, the first hour of which bore just 14 runs from 17 overs.
Sarwan's dismissal for 107 came the over after England relinquished their second and final umpire referral.
When Chanderpaul offered no shot to left-arm spinner Monty Panesar, England went up in unison for a leg before appeal, subsequently turned down by Rudi Koertzen.
Television umpire Daryl Harper then affirmed that his colleague had, in his opinion, made the right decision and the tourists were left at the sole discretion of the on-field officials from then on.
It was Broad's double strike before lunch which halted West Indian momentum in this opening contest of four.
Broad accounted for Chris Gayle, the first of the West Indians to reach three figures, and Xavier Marshall in the penultimate over before lunch following a torrid struggle for breakthroughs.
