Bullish Hendry beats Ding

Stephen Hendry romped into The Crucible quarter-finals with a brilliant display against Ding Junhui and insisted: "I'm only here for the trophy."

The seven-time champion powered to a 13-10 victory over Chinese cueman Ding, winning five of seven frames in Friday night's final session.

And the 40-year-old Scot, who claims age means nothing, believes he can grasp Betfred.com World Championship glory this year, a decade after landing his last title in Sheffield."Vindication will only come by lifting the trophy," he said.

"That's all I'm here for.

"That's the only thing that gives me real pleasure.

"Whether I win it or not is another matter, but that's all I'm here for, to win it."

Earlier, Ronnie O'Sullivan finally began to dominate second-round opponent Mark Allen at as he secured an overnight lead over the Northern Irishman.

Confident Allen had come into the match insisting that "favourites don't always win", but defending champion O'Sullivan is now just four frames from doing so to reach the Betfred.com World Championship quarter-finals.

Allen resumed level at 4-4 but lost the final two frames of Friday afternoon's session to fall 9-7 behind ahead of Saturday morning's conclusion.

Shaun Murphy was booed by some audience members as he began his second-round match against Marco Fu, but the 2005 world champion had plenty to cheer by the end of their first session, having opened up a 7-1 lead.
