Bulls crushed by Warriors

Wigan turned the jeers to cheers at the JJB Stadium with a masterful performance in a 44-10 win against a disappointing Bradford.

The Warriors were booed off the pitch after suffering surprise home defeats to Wakefield and Castleford during their worst start to a league season for 23 years, but the Bulls never looked capable of making it a hat-trick of Yorkshire victories at the JJB Stadium.

Wigan ran in seven tries, including two from outstanding second-rower Gareth Hock, while full-back Pat Richards contributed 20 points with a try and eight goals from eight attempts.

A comprehensive defeat leaves Bradford still looking for their first win of the season, with coach Steve McNamara coming under severe pressure.

Steve Menzies and Rikki Sheriffe both scored their first tries for the Bulls but they were little more than consolation and their misery was compounded by a suspected broken leg for hooker Wayne Godwin.

Tom Armstrong scored the only try of the game as St Helens secured a 4-0 victory but the resilient Celtic Crusaders ensured it was a nervy triumph for the visitors to Bridgend.

Saints had a point to prove before kick-off after a shock home defeat to Hull KR eight days ago, while the Crusaders were still searching for their first win of the season, but the Crusaders' prospects were hit with the loss of influential half-back and captain Jace van Dijk and top try-scorer Tony Duggan, both through injury.

Castleford climbed up to third place with a 24-22 away win over Catalans Dragons in Perpignan.

Centre James Evans marked his return from injury with a brace of tries as the Tigers made it three wins in a row for the first time in more than five years.

But Catalans never fully recovered from the shock of going 10-0 down after 21 minutes and, although they hit back to draw level at 18-18 in the second half, Castleford had the final say through substitute Rangi Chase.
