Bulls suffer points penalty
12 January 2007
The Bulls have been found guilty of over-spending during the 2006 season after appearing before an independent panel at Rugby Football League headquarters in Leeds.
Bradford were also ordered to pay the costs of the hearing - but it could have been worse.
At an earlier preliminary hearing, the tribunal ruled any points deductions this year would be applied under the terms of the salary cap rules in effect in June 2006 rather than those this year.
Bradford were found to have exceeded the cap by four per cent, the smallest breach which carried a points deduction. Had the new rules taken effect, the Bulls would have been docked four points.
St Helens were also found to have over-spent during their championship-winning season, but only by 0.8%, and they escaped with an £18,000 fine, although they must also pay £4,000 suspended from last year.
Wigan will have their case heard by the panel next Monday.
