Burgess commits to Bulls

Teenage forward sensation Sam Burgess has celebrated his England selection by pledging his long-term future to Bradford.

The Great Britain international has signed a new three-year contract with the Bulls, ending speculation that one of the game's hottest properties could be heading out of Odsal.

"I'd never heard about other clubs coming in for me and it never affected me or the decision I was going to make anyway," the 19-year-old Burgess told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus.

"I only wanted to play for the Bulls and was never going to leave. It's a big club, I always wanted to stay and there was no one else I wanted to play for.

"We've been in talks for a while so I'm happy to get it over and done with now."

While the club have been criticised for not making any big-name captures over the past 18 months, coach Steve McNamara believes cementing Burgess' future is more important than any marquee arrival.

"Sam is the big signing everyone wanted," he said. "Every Super League club and plenty of others in Australia would love to have got Sam and have him in their side but he's playing here with us which is just great news.

"He had another year left to run on his contract but we've decided to upgrade it and we're absolutely delighted that a super player and a super young man has decided to commit his future to Bradford Bulls."
