Butcher slams McClaren trip

McClaren watched Beckham score two goals on Sunday night and make three more in Los Angeles Galaxy's 12-4 win over a Hollywood United team featuring a number of former players and celebrities.
"For the England manager to be watching that is farcical," Butcher told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Beckham has endured a season blighted by injury since his big-money move to Major League Soccer but remains in contention to return for his country as McClaren seeks the victory against Croatia which could yet see England book their place in next summer's Euro 2008 finals.
"What can Beckham show the England manager in that sort of game?" questioned Butcher.
Beckham himself insists he is enthused by his American experience over the past six months.
"I am loving it," the 32-year-old midfielder assured Sky Sports News. "It's been great so far, very positive and smooth apart from the season."
Beckham discovered last night that Galaxy coach Frank Yallop is to leave the club. Yallop resigned after his team's victory over a Hollywood team containing the likes of ex-international defenders Richard Gough and Frank Leboeuf.
Beckham, meanwhile, concedes that, despite his apparent satisfaction with his first US campaign, he is setting his sights on improved fortunes in 2008.
"Next year I hope will be a lot different," he concluded.
