Cabrera has early lead

The big guns were homing in on early leader Angel Cabrera in the US Open.

Argentinian Cabrera, who has only one top-10 finish in his seven previous US Open appearances, carded three birdies in his first five holes to mover to three-under-par.

It gave him a one-shot lead over Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal and Americans David Toms and Pat Perez - but Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and defending champion Geoff Ogilvy were all one under.

Woods, looking for his third US Open title, got off to a slow start with a bogey at the first hole - but rebounded with a birdie at the par-four second and added another at the sixth.

Els - winner here in 1994 - started his round on 10 and birdied 11 and 17 to offset a bogey at the 12th, while Ogilvy had two birdies and a bogey through seven holes.

Olazabal had two birdies over his first eight holes and Toms and Perez were through seven and four holes respectively.
