Langfield made his first appearance of the season in the first leg of the first-round clash after losing the number one jersey to Derek Soutar following a summer row with Calderwood and the keeper gave an assured performance.

Calderwood said: "I am not being patronising, I don't think Derek has done too bad at all. He made a great save against Dundee United. It was just a gut feeling. We have got 10 goals against us."

He added: "With all the injuries we have never had a settled back four and Jamie has fantastic presence and has fantastic deliveries from his kick outs.

"We just decided to change it. It was a sore one for Derek and it was a difficult decision to make.

"Jamie didn't have too much to do but he has made one great save.

"Their keeper has made four great saves."

The Dons manager felt his side had done everything but score against the Ukrainians.

He said: "They gave everything against a very good team.

"We have dominated the first half. Effort wise we couldn't ask for any more. I think it was a wonderful game."
