Caldwell withdraws from Scotland squad

Caldwell suffered a knee injury during Celtic's 2-1 victory over Gretna on Sunday and was known to be a major doubt for Saturday's game against Ukraine at Hampden.
A Scottish Football Association spokesman confirmed that the results of a scan on the knee have forced Caldwell to withdraw from the squad.
Scotland boss Alex McLeish has not drafted anyone else in to cover for the former Hibernian player. Caldwell's club-mate Paul Hartley had already pulled out of the squad after straining his hamstring in the 2-1 win over Gretna at Fir Park.
Caldwell, 25, has not played a competitive game for Scotland since the 2-0 defeat in Ukraine a year ago, after being ruled out of much of last season with another knee injury.
McLeish said on Wednesday he had no plans to call up anyone else as he had initially chosen a 24-man squad so that call-offs would be covered. However, with Russell Anderson and Steven Pressley injured, McLeish only has Christian Dailly as back-up to David Weir and Stephen McManus - the central defensive partnership that shut out France last month.
Rangers defender Andy Webster has only played one match this season as his bad luck with injury continues, meaning his former Hearts team-mate Christophe Berra could be the most likely player to be called up should McLeish change his mind.
The uncapped 22-year-old was named in the squad for the friendly victory over South Africa in August.
The extent of Caldwell's injury is not known but his club boss Gordon Strachan had expected him to make the international games immediately after Sunday's game.
And Scotland coach Roy Aitken said on Wednesday that Caldwell's injury was not serious and did not involve a twist. But after being ruled out of Wednesday's game in Tbilisi, Caldwell's participation in the Old Firm derby three days later will now also be in doubt.
