Calzaghe edging towards retirement

Joe Calzaghe has reportedly stated he will "probably" announce his retirement in the new year.

The 36-year-old Welshman extended his perfect professional record to 46 wins with the recent victory against veteran Roy Jones Jr and vowed to consider his future over the Christmas period.

Calzaghe has so far refused to say whether he will fight on or call it a day but told BBC Sport: "I will make my final decision after the New Year, but I will probably retire."

The two-weight world champion also dismissed the prospect of a domestic clash against Nottingham rival Carl Froch, who claimed the vacant WBC super-middleweight title - which Calzaghe previously held - at the weekend.
