Capello happy with progress

Fabio Capello has omitted seven Champions League finalists for Sunday's friendly against Trinidad and Tobago but still expects to see more improvement from his England side.

Only Rio Ferdinand, who has links in the Caribbean, and Wayne Bridge, who did not play in Moscow last week, will make the 10-hour journey, with the rest beginning their summer break one game early.

But, after probably the most polished performance of his three games in charge so far, Capello wants to see more of the same, saying: "Now we have to move on because we need to get better in every game."

England will travel to Trinidad and Tobago looking very different to the side which despatched the USA comfortably enough at Wembley as John Terry and Steven Gerrard grabbed the goals in a 2-0 win.

Terry is one of those given an early holiday along with Wayne Rooney, Owen Hargreaves, Wes Brown, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole.

"I saw a lot of things that we were trying to do," continued Capello. "There was a lot of movement. When we had a chance to play a long ball we did. When it was possible to pass the ball we did that too.

"I liked the way we pressed the ball. We did it quickly, we did not waste a lot of time winning the ball back. We need to score more goals but we won and that was very important."

Once the Trinidad encounter is out of the way, Capello can then work out his strategy for the World Cup qualifiers, which begin against Andorra in September. Before that, England tackle the Czech Republic in a friendly on August 20, when Capello will introduce his permanent captain.

Ferdinand was believed to have moved into pole position but Terry's excellent goalscoring contribution, just seven days after his personal penalty shoot-out nightmare against Manchester United, may make the 61-year-old rethink his plans.

"It was important for John Terry to score," said Capello. "He can go on his holiday happy now. The captaincy will not be an easy decision and even in my own mind I do not know what the decision will be."
