Capello under investigation

England coach Fabio Capello has been placed under investigation by the office of Rome's prosecutor for alleged perjury.

The ex-Juventus, AC Milan and Roma coach and former Juventus director Antonio Giraudo, who is also under investigation, gave evidence in March in a trial relating to a sports agency that managed several Italian footballers and coaches.

Prosecutor Luca Palamara revealed after their testimony in March that he planned to start proceedings against the pair.

Six men are accused of putting pressure on players to sign agreements with Gea World, an agency run by Luciano Moggi, the former Juventus general manager and a defendant in the case.

Capello, who coached Juventus between 2004 and 2006, told the court he did not deal with player contracts while in Italy and had not heard of players being pressurised into signing agreements.

Capello said at the time: "At Roma and then at Juventus when I was boss, I only dealt with coaching decisions. I have never heard about players being put under pressure or of incidents relating to the players' contracts."

The son of former Italy coach Marcello Lippi, Davide, is also among the defendants.

An FA spokesman said: "It remains a private matter and we have no further comment to make."
