Cardiff demand FA action over Davis

Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale has demanded the Football Association launch an investigation into the incident that left Roger Johnson in hospital following Saturday's 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Palace centre-back Claude Davis caught Bluebirds defender Johnson in the throat with a flailing arm towards the end of the first half.

"In our opinion, the challenge looks deliberate and malicious and could have more seriously endangered Roger Johnson's well-being than hopefully is the case," Ridsdale said. "We are now asking the Football Association to investigate as a matter of urgency."

A shaken Johnson needed treatment but clearly felt he could continue and remonstrated with Dave Jones on the sidelines, but his manager decided otherwise and replaced him.

The 25-year-old was then taken to hospital and was kept in overnight for observation.

Jones, who had already seen Michael Chopra hobble off, was clearly seething at seeing Davis go unpunished and had an angry exchange with the on-loan Derby player at half-time on the way to the tunnel.

Jones was held back by security guards as tempers boiled over, with players and coaching staff from both sides getting involved in the fracas, which saw Jones and Palace counterpart Neil Warnock sent to the stands.

Ridsdale added: "We have now had the time to review the video footage of the incident where Roger Johnson was 'elbowed' in the throat by Claude Davis in our match at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

"If that incident had happened off the field of play, the police would have been asked to view the video with a view to considering assault charges.

"Any further comment will only be made once we have had a response from the FA."
