Carew happy at Villa

Striker John Carew has given Aston Villa a massive lift by insisting his long-term future lies with the midlands club

Carew, Villa's joint top scorer this season with 13 goals, has been linked with a summer move to either Werder Bremen or Galatasaray.

But the Norway international said: "I am very happy here. I don't want to leave this club. I love being here and everything about it - the fans, the players, everyone."

He added: "I see no reason why I should leave. I am enjoying my football and I am happy to be contributing towards the cause and for the good of Aston Villa."

Villa boss Martin O'Neill wants Carew to add greater consistency to his game but is keen for him to remain and form part of a potent strikeforce alongside Gabriel Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey.

He said: "Has Carew got a future here? Yes. Is he happy here? Yes. The crowd love him and he responds to that."

Villa will bid to end their dismal sequence of 12 games without a win when they entertain relegation-threatened Hull on Monday evening.

O'Neill said: "The mere fact is that we would just like to win a game. Performances have been excellent. We would just like to turn them into a victory. That would be excellent."

Agbonlahor looks like winning his fitness battle after missing last weekend's 1-1 draw at Bolton with a hamstring injury.
