Carmont pens new deal

Wigan centre George Carmont has ended speculation over his future by signing a new one-year contract, with an option for 2011 dependent on him playing a minimum, unspecified number of games.

The 31-year-old Samoan international, whose current contract runs out next month, had wanted a two-year deal but has now agreed a compromise.

Carmont, who has made 63 appearances since joining Wigan from Newcastle Knights two years ago, scoring 31 tries, said: "Staying at Wigan was the best decision for myself and my family. There is a good feeling and a good bond amongst the boys which I wanted to continue to be a part of. I am also excited about working under the new coaching staff of Michael Maguire and Shaun Wane."
