Carrick: We're simply the best

Michael Carrick insists Manchester United is the only club for him after committing himself to a new long term deal at Old Trafford.

Together with Rio Ferdinand and Wes Brown, the Wallsend-born star only needs to sign the deal that has been agreed with Old Trafford chief executive David Gill and he is adamant there is no other club he would rather be at.

"Manchester United is the best club," said the 27-year-old. "It is about the way we play and the size of the club; the whole set-up really."

He added: "When you get here, you see how the club runs and what it is all about. To have the pleasure to play here is amazing."

With manager Sir Alex Ferguson intent on bringing in even more new talent this summer, it is little wonder Carrick is so happy to remain with United.

The Red Devils are within touching distance of back-to-back league titles and face a Champions League semi-final with Barcelona on Wednesday and Carrick is delighted to be involved at the business end of the season.

"This is the time you want to be playing when big games pop around and the trophies are being handed out," he said.

"I want to get my hands on them.

"In terms of the title we are in the driving seat, especially as Chelsea slipped up against Wigan."
