Carroll signs new deal

Newcastle striker Andy Carroll has committed his future to the club by signing a new three-and-a-half-year contract.

The 20-year-old has put pen to paper on the deal after initially rejecting a five-year offer on less favourable terms.

Carroll told the club's official website, www.nufc.co.uk: "I'm over the moon to get my future sorted and there was never any doubt I would sign a new deal."

He added: "This is where I want to play my football and this season has been a dream for me."

Thursday's announcement came just 24 hours after local boy Carroll revealed he wanted assurances over his future involvement before he agreed a new deal.

Carroll, who became the club's youngest ever European debutant when he came on as a substitute in a 1-0 UEFA Cup win over Palermo in Sicily in November 2006, has made six senior appearances so far this season.

He made his first start for the club at Everton in the final game of last season, and opened his goalscoring account with a late equaliser in the 2-2 Barclays Premier League draw with West Ham on January 10.

Carroll added: "I came into the side earlier in the year and scored twice in six games.

"My first goal for my home-town club was amazing and I hope to score many more in the future. But my immediate aim is to get back in the team and help us stay in the Premier League."
