Carson is back in the spotlight again after the mix-up with England skipper John Terry that led to Germany's goal in Berlin on Wednesday. But Olsson has laid the blame for the goal with Terry and has nothing but praise for the way that Carson has been playing for Albion this season.

Olsson, who joined West Brom from the Dutch club NEC Nijmegen for £800,000 during the summer, said: "Terry should have kicked the ball away."

He added: "I have full confidence in Scott and he is one of the players who has impressed me most here at Albion.

"Scott had a tough game for England against Croatia last season but the way he has been playing shows he has put that experience behind him.

"That is football. You make mistakes and you learn from them. I think he has moved on well since then. The way he has been playing this season he has won some points for us."

Carson and Olsson are set to get a major test at Stoke as City will launch an aerial bombardment - boosted by the long throw-ins of Rory Delap.

Olsson is ready for it and he said: "We have been watching videos of the way that Stoke play. We need to stay on our toes because we know that the ball will be coming in harder than usual.

"It is going to be a tough game but after playing Liverpool and Chelsea in the last two matches it is one of those games where we feel that if we perform as we can do then we have a real chance of getting three points.

"There are going to be a lot of duels in the air what with their big strikers and the long throw-ins. I have to be at my best in this game."
