The Dragons cast aside their recent poor form to earn a maiden victory at Knowsley Road and condemn an out-of-sorts St Helens to a fourth home defeat in the last match of the regular season.
Inspired by Australians Casey McGuire and Adam Mogg, the Catalans outplayed Saints for most of the game and, with steadier finishing, could have enjoyed an even greater margin of victory.
Bradford's gallant fight to secure a 12th successive place in the play-offs ended at the KC Stadium despite their 21-18 win over Hull.
Steve McNamara's side, who have never failed to reach the play-offs since their inception in 1998, and despite doing their bit with a hard-fought three-try win that was secured by Paul Deacon's late drop goal, the Bulls, one of the most decorated and recognisable sides of the modern era, were left crestfallen at the final whistle as news of the shock Catalans win at Knowsley Road filtered through.
Reigning engage Super League Champions Leeds survived a late fightback at The Willows to lift the League Leader's Shield with a 30-24 win over Salford.
The Rhinos had put one hand on it with last week's victory over St Helens, and ensured they would top the table for the first time in five years.
Luke Adamson and John Wilshere both scored converted tries to give the hosts a shock lead, but Kallum Watkins and Jay Pitts helped the Rhinos come roaring back.
Luke Burgess, Brent Webb and Carl Ablett all crossed for the visitors in the second half and Leeds came out on top, despite a late rally which saw Stuart Littler and Stefan Ratchford cross.
