Cayless ruled out

St Helens prop Jason Cayless will miss the first three months of the 2008 Super League season after undergoing knee surgery.

The 27-year-old New Zealand international missed the recent Test series against Great Britain in order to have a microfracture operation, a relatively new procedure which involves minor breaking of the bones around the joint and is used to cure patients suffering knee cartilage damage.

It requires a six-month recovery period, ruling Cayless out until May.

Cayless has missed only nine matches since joining the club from Sydney Roosters two years ago - and two of those were to fly back to Australia following the sudden death of his mother.
