Century on Bell's mind

Ian Bell fears he has to begin converting impressive performances into major hundreds if he is remain as a regular in England's top order in all formats of the game.

Bell has been an ever present for England this winter playing 30 innings against international opposition and his highest score so far was the 87 he scored against Australia in the second innings of the third Test in Perth last December despite passing 50 seven times. He is yet to score a century in 42 one-day international appearances.

"I still feel I need to kick on a bit more. I've played pretty well and got myself in, but I think it's time now I've had 12 months or so in the top three so I need to kick on and turn these 50s and 60s into hundreds," admitted Bell, who will celebrate his 25th birthday in Wednesday's Super Eight showdown with Bangladesh at the Kensington Oval.

"If I want to be in the top three for England in the next few years, that's certainly what I'll have to do."

He stressed: "It would be nice to score a hundred before this winter is over. It's reassuring that I've been picked in every game this winter and scoring 77 in the game against Australia helped me a little bit with that."

England will remain favourites for Wednesday's match against Bangladesh having bullied them into submission during their previous six one-day internationals over the last three years.

But Bangladesh are a different force now and having beaten India and South Africa during this tournament, they have a vastly superior record to England, who have registered only one victory in their past seven World Cup matches against top-class Test opposition.

Victory against Bangladesh on Wednesday, however, is crucial if England are to progress to the last four for the first time since 1992.

They need to win all their three remaining matches - against Bangladesh, South Africa and West Indies - and hope results go in their favour if England are to stand a realistic chance of qualification.

England are expected to name an unchanged side although Liam Plunkett and newcomer Stuart Broad may challenge for a place at the expense of Sajid Mahmood, who was hammered for 60 runs in his 9.2 overs against Australia.
