Britain's fastest man joined Super League's bottom club for a month's trial on Monday and Tigers coach Terry Matterson suggested his first taste of rugby league could come as early as Sunday when his injury-hit side take on St Helens at the Jungle.
But Castleford on Wednesday made it clear that the controversial sprinter is not yet ready to feature in Super League, although he could play in the reserve match against Saints, which will be played as a curtain-raiser to Sunday's big game.
In a statement, the club said Chambers has undergone a full rugby league-related fitness test and will take part in training sessions on Thursday and Friday before a decision is taken on whether he will play on Sunday.
Chief executive Richard Wright said: "We wish to make our position regarding Dwain Chambers clear to our supporters and fans in general.
"He is with us as a trialist at this stage and is just beginning his rugby league education.
"We will continue to work with him on this basis so that both Dwain and the Castleford club can benefit from the experience."
Meanwhile, Chambers has agreed to meet Britain's anti-doping chief to provide inside knowledge on drug offences.
After returning from a two-year suspension from athletics for taking a banned substance in 2005, Chambers has been criticised by UK Sport's director of drug-free sport, John Scott, for not doing enough to help the anti-doping cause.
But Chambers' lawyer Nick Collins has since called Scott to arrange talks and confirmed: "We have a meeting pencilled in with John Scott."
