Chambers wait almost over

Dwain Chambers will discover on Tuesday morning if he has a future in rugby league.

Super League strugglers Castleford are striving to put together a sponsorship package to retain the services of the disgraced sprinter following the completion of his unpaid month-long trial.

Chambers, who twice failed to break through into gridiron during his two-year ban for taking a banned designer drug, has played just 39 minutes of league in a friendly against York.

He clearly struggled to cope with the stamina needed to play the 13-man game before eventually retiring with a shoulder injury.

However, Chambers insisted that he enjoyed the experience and remains serious about carving out a career in the game, despite recently celebrating his 30th birthday.

"He's a 30-year-old with a 20-year-old's body, at least for rugby league purposes," said a spokesman for the athlete.

"He has done remarkably well in four weeks but really needs another six to nine months to get to grips with rugby league."
